Salome Meyer has been serving as the Swiss Ambassador to the Republic of Austria since 2022. In this role, she represents Switzerland's interests and priorities in Austria, working to strengthen bilateral relations and promote Swiss values and policies in the diplomatic arena.

Ambassador Meyer brings over two decades of diplomatic experience to her position, having joined the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 2001. Prior to her current appointment, she served as the Swiss Ambassador to Canada and the Bahamas from 2019 to 2022, based in Ottawa.

Throughout her career, Ambassador Meyer has held various high-level diplomatic positions, demonstrating her versatility and expertise in international relations. From 2015 to 2018, she served as the Diplomatic Advisor to the Swiss Federal Presidency, a role that provided her with valuable insights into the highest levels of Swiss government operations.

Her previous assignments include serving as Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy in Beijing from 2011 to 2015, where she was responsible for relations with China, Mongolia, and North Korea. From 2007 to 2011, she led the Political and Legal Affairs section at the Swiss Embassy in London. Ambassador Meyer's earlier career included roles focused on bilateral relations with Austria, Germany, and Central Europe at the FDFA headquarters in Bern. She also gained experience in conflict analysis and early warning systems during her time at Swisspeace from 1999 to 2001.

Her educational background includes a degree in Modern General History with minors in Media Studies and Constitutional Law from the University of Bern. She also spent time as a research student at Rhodes University in South Africa, enhancing her international perspective.

Fluent in German, French, and English, Ambassador Meyer's linguistic skills facilitate her ability to engage effectively in multilateral diplomacy and foster Swiss-Austrian relations. Her diverse background in diplomacy, conflict analysis, and international affairs equips her well to represent Swiss interests in Austria and contribute to strengthening the ties between the two countries. Throughout her career, Ambassador Meyer has demonstrated a commitment to public service and international cooperation. Her experience across various regions and in different diplomatic roles positions her to effectively promote Swiss interests and values in Austria while fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the two nations.
