The Ambassador
Andreas Ignatiou
Ambassador Andreas Ignatiou is a seasoned diplomat with a rich career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus. Born on May 5, 1964, in Nicosia, Cyprus, he completed his military service in the National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus from 1982 to 1984. He pursued his higher education in Vienna, where he took German language courses from 1984-1985, and obtained a Diploma and Master's Degree in Political Sciences from the University of Vienna between 1985 and 1991.
Ambassador Ignatiou's diplomatic career began in 1989, and he has since held various key positions. From 1989 to 1996, he worked at the central administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1996 and 2000, he served as Counselor at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Germany, both in Bonn and Berlin. He then became Deputy Director of the Department responsible for Russian-German relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2005. He also served as Minister-Counselor at the Russian Embassy in Austria from 2005 to 2008, and as Deputy Director at the Ministry from 2008 to 2010. From 2010 to 2015, he was the Director of the 3rd European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In August 2015, Ambassador Ignatius was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Austria. Fluent in German and English, he brings a wealth of experience and linguistic skills to his role. He is married and has two daughters, born in 1992 and 2002.
