María Aurora Mejía Errasquín

Ambassador María Aurora Mejía Errasquín was born in Madrid on July 4, 1960. She holds a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and entered the Diplomatic Service in 1987.

Throughout her distinguished career, Ambassador Mejía Errasquín has served in various capacities at Spanish embassies in Romania, Denmark, and Brazil, as well as at the Permanent Representation of Spain to NATO. She has twice been an Advisor to the International Department of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government (1995-1996 and 2005-2007) and served as Ambassador-at-Large for the Promotion of Gender Equality Policies (2007-2008).

From 2008 to 2010, she was the Director General of International Legal Cooperation and subsequently held the position of Director General of International Legal Cooperation and Relations with Religious Denominations (2010-2012) at the Ministry of Justice. She also served as the Spanish Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2012 to 2015.

Her roles have included being the Ambassador-at-Large for Afghanistan and Pakistan (2015-2016), Deputy Director General of Security (2016-2018), and Director General of Western, Central, and Southeastern Europe (2018-2020) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation.

In 2020, Ambassador Mejía Errasquín joined the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government, initially as Director of the European Union Department and, since November 2021, as Director of the Coordination Office for the Spanish Presidency of the European Union.

She is fluent in English, French, and Portuguese, and has basic knowledge of German, Danish, Italian, Romanian, and Bosnian.

Ambassador María Aurora Mejía Errasquín is married and has two children.
