Emilian Horațiu Hurezeanu (Emil Hurezeanu) has been serving as the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Austria since June 2021. In this role, he represents Romania's interests and priorities in Austria, working to strengthen bilateral relations and promote Romanian culture and values.

Ambassador Hurezeanu brings a wealth of experience in journalism, diplomacy, and academia to his position. Born on August 26, 1955, in Sibiu, Romania, he holds dual Romanian and German citizenship. He earned his law degree from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca in 1979 and later pursued studies in international relations at the University of Vienna and the University of Virginia.

Prior to his current appointment, Ambassador Hurezeanu served as Romania's Ambassador to Germany from 2015 to 2021. His diplomatic career builds upon an extensive background in media and communications. He held prominent positions at Radio Free Europe and Deutsche Welle, including roles as editor-in-chief and department head for their Romanian services.

His journalism career also included stints as a television host for foreign policy programs and editorial director for major Romanian newspapers. Ambassador Hurezeanu's expertise extends to academia, where he has served as a guest professor at several Romanian universities, teaching courses on international relations, European studies, and philosophy. He has also been a lecturer at Romania's National Defense College, focusing on European affairs and international relations.

Throughout his career, Ambassador Hurezeanu has been a prolific writer and poet. He has published several books of poetry, essays, and political commentary, receiving accolades including the Romanian Writers' Union Prize for his journalistic work. Ambassador Hurezeanu's contributions to Romanian culture and diplomacy have been widely recognized. He has received numerous honors, including the National Order of Merit in the rank of Commander, the Order of the Crown of Romania, and honorary doctorates from several Romanian universities. In 2021, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his efforts in strengthening German-Romanian relations.
