Throughout her distinguished career, Ambassador Susan Eckey, currently serving as Ambassador to Austria, has held a series of pivotal roles that underscore her expertise in diplomacy and international affairs. Notably, from 2020 to 2022, she served as Deputy Director General in the Department for Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she contributed significantly to Norway's multilateral engagements and policies.

Prior to her current role, Ambassador Eckey served as Ambassador to Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda, stationed in Kampala, Uganda, from 2015 to 2019. Her tenure in East Africa was marked by efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and promote development initiatives in the region. From 2011 to 2015, Ambassador Eckey held the position of Minister Counsellor for Economic and Social Affairs at Norway's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, where she represented Norway's interests on global economic and social issues.

Earlier in her career, Ambassador Eckey played key roles within Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Director General and Head of the Section for Humanitarian Affairs from 2005 to 2008, and Assistant Director General from 2003 to 2005. Her responsibilities in these positions encompassed shaping Norway's humanitarian policies and responses to global crises.

Ambassador Eckey's career also includes significant postings such as Head of Section and Deputy of the Secretariat of the Minister for International Development from 2000 to 2003, Adviser in the Section for Trade and the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2000, and diplomatic assignments such as First Secretary and Third Committee delegate at Norway's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1997 to 2000. She began her diplomatic service as Second Secretary at the Embassy in Santiago, Chile, from 1994 to 1997, where she gained valuable experience in bilateral relations.

Ambassador Eckey's academic background includes a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration from the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen, Norway, which has equipped her with a strong foundation in economic theory and strategic management.
