The Ambassador
Jozef Polakovič
Jozef Polakovič has been serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Austria since August 2023. His extensive diplomatic career spans several key positions and diverse international experiences, reflecting his deep expertise in foreign affairs.
Before his current role, Ambassador Polakovič was the Director of the Office of the Minister at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic from 2020 to 2023. From 2017 to 2020, he served as Deputy Ambassador and Chargé d'affaires at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Washington DC.
His earlier roles include heading the Department of Inter-Institutional Relations at the Permanent Representation of the Slovak Republic to the European Union in Brussels (2014-2017) and serving as Deputy Director of the Department of Analysis and Planning at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic (2012-2014). He was part of the political section at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Berlin from 2007 to 2012 and worked in the Department of Coordination of European Policies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic from 2005 to 2007.
Ambassador Polakovič's academic background is equally impressive. He completed his doctoral studies (PhD) in International Relations at the University of Economics in Bratislava, Faculty of International Relations, from 2004 to 2007. His university studies in international relations, European law, and European studies took him to institutions in Bratislava, Freiburg, Moscow, Belgrade, and Hamburg between 1997 and 2005.
Fluent in English, French, German, Russian, and Serbian, Ambassador Polakovič brings a wealth of linguistic and cultural knowledge to his diplomatic endeavours.
