Peter Potman

During his distinguished career, Ambassador Peter Potman has held numerous key positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2019, he has served as the Deputy Director General for Foreign Economic Relations. Prior to this role, he was the Director of the Asia and Oceania Department from 2014 to 2019. His tenure also includes serving as the Consul General at the Consulate General in Shanghai from 2011 to 2014.

From 2008 to 2011, Ambassador Potman was the Deputy Director of the Western Hemisphere Affairs Department. Between 2004 and 2008, he worked as the Political Counsellor at the Embassy in Washington, DC. Earlier in his career, he was the Deputy Head of Division in both the Security Policy Department (2000-2004) and the United Nations Department (1997-2000).

His international experience is further highlighted by his role as the Second Secretary for the Netherlands delegation to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva from 1994 to 1997. He began his career as a Policy Officer in the Asian and Pacific Affairs Department (1992-1994) and served as the Third Secretary at the Embassy in Beijing from 1989 to 1992.

Ambassador Potman holds a master's degree in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam. He is married and has two adult children.
