The Ambassador

Amb. Pietro Benassi

Pietro Benassi was born in Rome in 1958 on the 7th of June.

In 1980 Amb. Benassi graduated from the University of Padua with a degree in political science. The Ambassador began his diplomatic career in 1984, when he began working in the Directorate General for Economic Affairs, first in the Office of Energy, Space and Research and later, at the Secretariat of the Directorate General.

From 1990 to 1994 Amb. Benassi was the First Secretary in Warsaw, and from 1994 to 1999 he was assigned to the Directorate General for Development Cooperation.

Amb. Benassi was then Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the U.E. in Brussels from 1999 to 2002, when he started his career as First Counsellor at the Italian Embassy in Berlin as head of the Political Bureau. On July 31st 2009, he became Italian Ambassador in Tunis and since the 23rd of September 2014 Pietro Benassi has acted as Ambassador of Italy to the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin.
