The Ambassador

H.E. Jiří Čistecký

H.E. Jiří Čistecký has been serving as the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany since October 2024. Born on February 14, 1971, in Tábor, Czech Republic, he holds a degree from the University of Economics in Prague, which he completed in 1994. He speaks English, German, Russian, and French.

Ambassador Čistecký began his diplomatic career in 1994 with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has held numerous important posts throughout his career. From 2023 to 2024, he served as the Chargé d'Affaires at the Czech Embassy in Moscow. Prior to that, he was the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Istanbul from 2019 to 2023.

Throughout his career, he has occupied various senior roles, including Deputy Head of the Security Department and Director of the Minister’s Office. He also served as Special Envoy for Holocaust Affairs and Government Commissioner for the Czech-Bavarian State Exhibition. Earlier in his career, he represented the Czech Republic as Counselor at the Embassy in Vienna and held postings at the Czech Embassies in Berlin and Bonn.

Ambassador Čistecký’s career highlights his expertise in Central European relations and his commitment to fostering diplomatic ties. He has been actively engaged in international relations for nearly three decades. In his free time, he enjoys history, music, and reading. He is divorced and has four children.

The building of the Czech Embassy in Berlin was built in 1978 as the Czechoslovak Embassy in East Germany and was one of the few new embassies built in East Berlin. It was built as part of an architectural project, by the architects Vladimir and Vera Machonin.
