The Ambassador

H.E. Hamad Alkaabi

H.E. Hamad Alkaabi is the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Austria, a position he has held since 2022. He has played a significant role in leading the assessment of developing a peaceful nuclear energy program in the UAE and has served as a primary interlocutor on matters related to nuclear energy, nuclear safety, and nonproliferation between the UAE Government and international organizations and governments, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Appointed as the Permanent Representative of the UAE to the IAEA and Special Representative for International Nuclear Cooperation by the UAE Foreign Minister in April 2008, Ambassador Alkaabi is also a member of the Board of Management of the Federal Authority of Nuclear Regulation in the UAE, serving as Deputy Chairman of the Board since 2009. He has been personally involved in all key milestones of the UAE nuclear energy program. Ambassador Alkaabi has represented the UAE Government in multiple UN and multilateral forums, including the Non-Proliferation Treaty review conferences and the Nuclear Security Summit series. He previously served as the UAE Ambassador to Austria from 2016 to 2019 and as the nonresident Ambassador to the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Slovenia from 2017 to 2019. Trained as a nuclear engineer, he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Purdue University in Indiana, USA, where his graduate work focused on nuclear safety.
