The Ambassador
H.E. Ibrahim ASSAF
H.E. Ibrahim ASSAF is the esteemed Ambassador of Lebanon to Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, and the Slovak Republic, and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Vienna. Ambassador Assaf assumed his credentials in December 2017 and has been serving in these capacities since November 2017.
Born in Lebanon in 1968, Ambassador Assaf is married to Mrs. Brigitte Tawk, and together they have three children. He is a multilingual diplomat, fluent in Arabic, French, and English, skills that have significantly enhanced his international engagements.
Ambassador Assaf's academic background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, obtained from the Holy Spirit University USEK-Lebanon in 1991. He furthered his education by graduating from the “National Institute of Administration” in Beirut in 1993.
Ambassador Assaf has had a distinguished career in diplomacy, marked by various significant postings. Before his current roles, he served as Counsellor and Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., of Lebanon in Bahrain from 2012 to 2017. Between 2010 and 2011, he was the “Political Coordinator” of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York, during Lebanon’s membership of the Security Council.
From 2008 to 2009, he was an Advisor on United Nations Issues at the Directorate General of the Presidency of the Republic of Lebanon. His tenure at the Permanent Mission of Lebanon in New York spanned from 2000 to 2006, where he served as Deputy Permanent Representative and Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., between 2005 and 2006. His earlier diplomatic assignments included roles as Secretary of the Embassy and later as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., of the Embassy of Lebanon in Sierra Leone from 1996 to 2000, and as an Attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in Beirut from 1994 to 1995.
In 2009, Ambassador Assaf authored a significant book titled “The Last Assassination”, which delves into UN Documents on the Investigation of Rafic Hariri's Assassination. This publication highlights his deep involvement in important international legal and diplomatic issues.
