Ambassador Tolendy Makeyev, born on April 26, 1958, in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, currently serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Austria and the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN, OSCE, and other International Organizations in Vienna since June 17, 2021.

Ambassador Makeyev completed his higher education at Kyrgyz State University, graduating from the Faculty of Foreign Languages in 1980. He earned his qualifications as a Philologist, Language Instructor, and Interpreter, which laid the foundation for his subsequent diplomatic and teaching careers.

Ambassador Makeyev began his professional journey as a Language Instructor at the Chair of German at Kyrgyz State University from 1980 to 1986. He then served as a Translator at the Central Courses for Training and Advanced Retraining of Aviation Personnel in Bishkek until 1990. Between 1990 and 1991, he held the position of Executive Secretary on the Board of the Kyrgyz Branch of the Association for the UN Promotion.

His diplomatic career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Kyrgyz Republic commenced in 1991, initially serving as the second and first secretary of the Department of Economic and Cultural Cooperation. His roles quickly expanded as he became Chief of the Sector, expert in the EU and US Department (1993-1994), and later Charge d'affaires of the Kyrgyz Republic in Germany and Counsellor of the Embassy from 1995 to 1997.

Ambassador Makeyev's responsibilities continued to grow as he assumed the role of Head of the Consular Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic in Frankfurt am Main (1997-1998). Following this, he led the Western Countries Department and served as Deputy Director, then Director, of the First Political Department of the MFA KR until 2001. His tenure in Germany included serving as Minister-Counsellor in the Embassy from 2001 to 2004.

Returning to Kyrgyzstan, he became Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Planning and Multilateral Economic Cooperation of the MFA KR (2004-2005), and from 2005 to 2010, he served as the National Coordinator of the SCO in the rank of Deputy Minister of MFA KR. From 2010 to 2012, he was Ambassador to Germany, the Vatican, Sweden, and Denmark, with residence in Berlin.

Following a stint as an advisor to a German consulting firm and as General Manager of LLC "K. O. Standard Agroservice" in Bishkek, he returned to the MFA KR in 2019 as Director of the Second Political Department before his current appointment in 2021.

Ambassador Makeyev is married and is a father to two children. He is fluent in Russian, German, and English, enhancing his effectiveness in international diplomacy.
