Ikram Bin Mohammad Ibrahim

Ambassador Ikram Bin Mohammad Ibrahim, born in 1970, currently serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to the Republic of Austria and the Slovak Republic, a role he has held since June 2021 when he received his Letters of Credence. He is also the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations and International Organisations in Vienna. Ambassador Ikram presented his credentials to His Excellency Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, President of the Republic of Austria, on January 12, 2022.

Before his current appointments, Ambassador Ikram served as the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from February 2018 to May 2021. His diplomatic career includes significant postings across the globe, including in New York, Brussels, and Washington, DC. His roles have primarily focused on international and regional peace and security issues, marking him as a seasoned diplomat in handling complex global matters.

During his tenure with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Ambassador Ikram contributed to the Multilateral Political Affairs Division and served as the Undersecretary for Multilateral Security Affairs from February 2015 to January 2018. He co-chaired the ARF Inter-sessional Meeting on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament during the 2015-2017 term and was a Special Officer to the Secretary-General from 2007 to 2008.

Ambassador Ikram has been a key representative for Malaysia in various international forums under the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement, Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN Regional Forum, and the Commonwealth. He has also been involved in significant global security initiatives such as the Nuclear Security Summit, Proliferation Security Initiative, and the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS/ISIL/Daesh.

Ambassador Ikram is an alumnus of the International Islamic University Malaysia, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 1994. He was a UN Disarmament Fellow in 1998 and a Chevening Scholar at Oxford University’s Foreign Service Programme in 1999/2000. He also holds a Diploma in Public Management from the National Institute of Public Administration (1997) and a Certificate in Diplomacy from the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (1998).

Ambassador Ikram is married and is a proud father of four sons. His personal and professional life reflects a deep commitment to his family and to serving Malaysia on the international stage.
