Dr. iur. Damos Dumoli Agusman, SH, MA
Dr. iur. Damos Dumoli Agusman, SH, MA, is the current Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Austria and Slovenia and serves as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna. His extensive career in the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been predominantly devoted to international law, particularly in the management and implementation of international treaties.
Dr. Agusman graduated from Padjadjaran University, Bandung in 1987, majoring in law. He furthered his studies in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a Master's degree in International Law and Politics from the University of Hull in 1991. He completed his Doctorate in international law at the University of Frankfurt in 2014. Additionally, he attended the Hague Academy of International Law in 1994, deepening his expertise in international legal matters.
Dr. Agusman began his career in diplomatic missions with postings in significant locations. From 1993 to 1997, he was stationed at the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague, during which he attended the Hague Academy of International Law. He served as Counsellor at both the Indonesian Embassy and the Indonesian Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna from 2000 to 2004, followed by an appointment as Consul General of Indonesia in Frankfurt, Germany, from 2010 to 2014.
Before his current ambassadorial role, Dr Agusman was the Director General for Legal Affairs and International Treaties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2017 to 2022. In this capacity, he oversaw the preparation, conclusion, and domestic implementation of treaties involving Indonesia. He also managed maritime issues, focusing on how Indonesia implements UNCLOS 1982 and handles maritime boundary negotiation.
Dr. Agusman is a prolific author, having published numerous scholarly articles and several books. His notable publications include “Hukum Perjanjian Internasional, Teori dan Praktik di Indonesia” (2010), “Treaties under Indonesian Law: Comparative Study” (2014), and “Indonesia dalam Dinamika Hukum Internasional” (2021). These works reflect his deep involvement in and understanding of international law from an Indonesian perspective.
Dr. Agusman is married to Ermita Agusman, and they are proud parents to a daughter, Yemima, and grandparents to a grandson, Joseph.
