The Ambassador
Idibek Kalandar
Mr Idibek Kalandar serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Austria and is also the Permanent Representative to the OSCE, United Nations, and other International Organizations in Vienna since his appointment in September 2017.
Mr. Kalandar completed his initial studies at Dushanbe Pedagogical University, graduating from the Foreign Languages Department in 1992. He further advanced his education at Tsukuba University in Japan, where he earned a Master’s degree in 2004.
Mr. Kalandar began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan in 1995 as a Third Secretary in the Personnel Department, a position he held until 1999. He then progressed to become a Second Secretary in the Asia and Africa Department of the Ministry, a role he served in until 2004. Upon completing his master's degree, he returned to the Ministry as a First Secretary and was soon appointed Head of Section in the International Organizations Department.
From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Kalandar was stationed at the Embassy of Tajikistan in Austria, initially as a Second Secretary before being promoted to First Secretary. In 2008, he returned to Tajikistan to serve as a First Secretary and Advisor in the Europe and Americas Department of the Ministry.
His expertise in international organizations was further utilized when he was appointed Head of Section again in the International Organizations Department from 2009 to 2011. He then served at the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan to the United Nations as a First Secretary until 2014, followed by a role as Head of the Department for International Organization at the MFA Tajikistan from 2014 to 2017.
Mr. Kalandar is fluent in Tajik, Russian, English, and Japanese, which has been beneficial in his international assignments and diplomatic engagements. He is married and the proud father of three children.
