This extraordinary event, which runs until April 27, 2025, marks the start of an ambitious cross-continental tour. Supported by the German Archaeological Institute and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History, this exhibition highlights over two million years of human history rooted in Africa. It also emphasizes Africa's central role in the field of cultural techniques and survival strategies that continue to shape the world.
The opening ceremony saw diplomats, academics, and cultural leaders from different continents. Notable attendees included Dr. Jörg Linstädter and Dr. Miriam Rotgänger, leading curators of the project, alongside Wazi Apoh from the University of Ghana. Representing the German government, officials from the Federal Foreign Office and representatives from the German Research Foundation (DFG) shared their commitment to fostering intercultural understanding. African artists contributed vibrant visual and cinematic interpretations of the Planet Africa’s themes.
The exhibition underscores the transformative power of archaeology in fostering international collaboration. By connecting African and German researchers, it highlights shared histories and mutual learning.
