At this Academy, chess is as capable to serve not only as entertainment but as an educational tool for gifted individuals. Interested children (from the very tender age of 5 to 14) are trained at the Academy in strategic thinking, through the medium of chess. This year, the best players from each age group represented Zimbabwe at the Youth World Chess Championships in Durban (South Africa).

Recently, a representative from the Germany Embassy, Mrs Antje Haeusler visited the Glen Norah Knights Chess Academy (GNKCA) at Glen Norah A Hall in Harare, Zimbabwe. She was on hand to donate Chess Equipment on behalf of the German Embassy. During the visit, the GNKCA Director and Founder John Chibvuri thanked the German Embassy for its passion towards the youth in the area and their donations.

On December 13th, at around 14:00 hours, Mrs Hausler from the German Embassy in Zimbabwe arrived on her first visit to the Glen Norah Hall in the Glen Norah suburb in Harare and was welcomed by young chess enthusiasts, as well as older club loyalists. Her visit consisted of the official presentation of new chess equipment and t-shirts to the club. In total, the German Embassy donated 6 Digital Clocks, 10 Chess Boards, and 40 branded t/shirts worth $1330 to the Glen Norah Chess Academy.

During her visit Mrs Hausler was given the opportunity meet some of the Zimbabwe national youth players and play a good game of chess with the chess Academy’s youngest player, John Junior (5 years old). The young boy showed off his chess skill and impressive tactical brilliance during the execution of the game, much to the amazement of Mrs. Hausler. And after the game the scoreboard read Zimbabwe (1) - Germany (0). The Academy was so kind as to organize some entertainment for the visit, a local cultural dance, delivering a splendid performance.
