Cultural Diplomacy in Practice: Peace Funds in Congo Offer Business Opportunities for Germany

News from Berlin - The Funds for Peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) offer business opportunities for German companies and enterprises.

The Peace Fund (Fonds pour la consolidation de la Paix) is a bilateral project of the German-Congolese cooperation, put in place by the funding bank KFW. The offer is being extended to German companies and enterprises in order to have the opportunity to engage in business projects in the DR Congo. The GOPA Consulting firm has the subcontract as a fund manager. The project is in the second phase of the development, which runs until the end of 2015 and is worth  20 million euros.

Income-generating and employment-intensive activities are financed, to contribute to a positive change in the lives of people in former conflict-affected areas in the short term from the Peace Fund.

The measures of the Peace Fund lie with various important areas, such as the establishment of rural infrastructure and the construction of roads, bridges and markets. Additionally the project finances food security and agriculture as well as social infrastructure, such as schools and health care.

German companies are encouraged to participate in tenders .  There is also the possibility of inserts as a trainer and instructor within some of the construction projects. Interested companies can make a pre-project visit. The funding bank KfW and and the Consulting firm GOPA would pick the company representatives from Kinshasa or Kigali and show them the projects.

The economic relations between Germany and the Republic of Congo have been improving  over the last few years and the recent project is only serving to  strengthen the ties between Germany and the DR Congo.
