Empowering women for Peacebuilding in Colombia: a visionary panel discussion at the Nordic Embassies

“When the water flow as One” is an 85-minutes film which UN women, the Embassy of Sweden in Colombia and the Colombian truth Commission jointly developed, illustrates the importance of memory and truth in achieving sustainable peace.

Women have had different roles in building peace and seeking truth about the violent past, so the film show us this reality through the different adversities that women overcome, facing armed actors, winning unprecedented legal cases of sexual violence, they have challenged the cocaine economy and they have listened to and embraced each other to heal the pain that the war left them. Colombia´s peace process and the role that women played in it are an inspiration to many countries.

The panel discussion on April 16th, 2024 at the Swedish Embassy will be opened by H.E Veronika Wand-Danielsson, Ambassador of Sweden to Germany and H.E Yadir Salazar Mejía, Ambassador of Colombia to Germany.  The main topic will be the role of women in the Colombian peace process, their challenges and accomplishments. In addition, it the role of the international community in endorsing these processes and supporting women in peacebuilding will be discussed.

Together with the panelists, the participants will reflect on the lessons learned from the Colombian experience that can inspire other processes of peace and search for truth.

The documentary will be in Spanish with English subtitles and the panel discussion will be held in English. Currently the tickets are sold out.
