Burkinabč Music Takes Center Stage in Austria
Ambassador Ouattara honors Madou Kone for his influence and cultural promotion efforts

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso in Vienna Maïmounata Ouattara received Mr. Madou Kone in audience on August 13, 2024. Mr. Kone, the dean of Burkinabè artists in Austria and a giant of traditional African music, paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador. He took the opportunity to congratulate her and her team for the support provided by the Embassy in promoting Burkinabè music in Austria.
In return, the Ambassador expressed her gratitude for his visit and commended him for his globally recognized artistic contributions, which have significantly raised the profile of Burkina Faso, both worldwide and particularly in Austria. She also took the opportunity to deliver a message from the President of Burkina Faso on the occasion of the Day of Patriotic Mobilization for the Burkinabè Diaspora. The artist, deeply appreciative of this gesture, expressed his readiness to respond to the call of his homeland.
Madou Kone was one of the founding members of the Kouledafourou Troupe in Bobo-Dioulasso. Having lived in Austria for 25 years, he has successively founded the Koubalo, Liberté, and Teriya troupes, the latter being the one he currently leads. A multidisciplinary artist, he is a singer and proficient in various traditional instruments, including the balafon, djelibani, n'goni, bara, tamani, and djembe. He also teaches music in educational institutions in Austria and across Europe and has released six albums to date.
