Rebecca Rukeyser reads from The Homestead – a novel in progress

The U.S. Embassy organizes a number of events entitled Literature Series that give American writers an opportunity to present their recent work to German public.

After Meg Wolitzer and Claire Messud’s visit in October, Rebbeca Rukeyser will read from her novel The Homestead. Set in the early years of the 21st century in Alaska, follows married couple Lew and Megan Jenkins and their efforts to save their homestead from falling to ruin. Faced with a harsh economic situation they open their property to tourism, aiming to give vacationers a sense of the the real Alaska.

Rebecca Rukeyser is a fiction writer and the recipient of a 2018 Arbeitsstipendium nichtdeutschsprachige Literatur 2018/ Grant for Non-German Literature, awarded by the Berlin Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa. Her work has appeared in such publications as ZYZZYVA, The Massachusetts Review, and Best American NonRequired Reading. She is co-founder of the Berlin Writers Workshop and teaches fiction writing at Heinrich Heine Universität.
