Zambian Embassy in Germany Celebrates Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary and Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s Centenary
Ambassador Winnie Natala Chibesakunda Hosts Diplomatic Corps and Diaspora Events

The Zambian community in Germany gathered in Berlin on October 31 and November 1, 2024, to celebrate Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary, known as the Diamond Jubilee, along with the centenary of Zambia’s founding President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda. Hosted by Zambian Ambassador Mrs. Winnie Natala Chibesakunda, the two-day event welcomed esteemed guests, including diplomats, members of the business community, and Zambian citizens living in Germany, in a heartfelt celebration of Zambia’s heritage and enduring partnership with Germany.
Ambassador Chibesakunda's official reception for the diplomatic corps on October 31 was a vibrant reflection of Zambian pride and nostalgia. Ms. Sarah Bernardy from Germany’s Federal Foreign Office attended both diplomatic and diaspora functions, honoring the Zambian community with her presence. The event featured powerful reflections and speeches from long-standing friends of Zambia, including former German Ambassador to Zambia Mr. Frank Meyke, Mr. Heiner Naumann from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and former GIZ Zambia Head Prof. Theo Rauch. Dr. Uschi Eid, President of the German-Africa Foundation and patron of Friends of Zambia, shared inspiring words, while Professor Killion Munyama traveled from Poland’s WSG University to pay tribute to Dr. Kaunda. Hon. Consul Dr. Victor Kuehne was also present, joining the celebrations.
On November 1, the diaspora event brought together Zambians from across Germany, gathering in joyful remembrance. With music, speeches, and interesting exchanges, the community commemorated Zambia’s history, honoring Dr. Kaunda’s legacy and the friendship between Zambia and Germany. Together, these celebrations reaffirmed a future built on continued cooperation and mutual respect, strengthening the longstanding connection between the two nations.
