The Forum on Cultural Diplomacy in the European Union, held in Potsdam from 17–19 June 2026 (www.eu-cd.org), once again underscored a central truth of contemporary international relations: cultural diplomacy remains one of the most effective instruments for building trust, advancing dialogue and strengthening sustainable international partnerships.

In an era defined by complex geopolitical dynamics and evolving global challenges, the Forum provided a timely platform for reflection and exchange. Over several days of high-level engagement, it brought together distinguished representatives from ten countries, each contributing perspectives shaped by national experience and a shared commitment to constructive international cooperation.

The discussions reaffirmed that diplomacy is most effective when it extends beyond formal negotiation frameworks and engages with the cultural, historical and societal dimensions that shape relations between states. Cultural diplomacy, in this sense, is not a supplementary tool, but an essential framework for understanding and collaboration.

The Forum was honoured by the participation of the following distinguished contributors:

Amb. Antonio Lehmann Gutiérrez (Ambassador of Costa Rica to Germany)
Amb. Iris Joseline Pujol Rodriguez (Ambassador of Dominican Republic to Germany)
Amb. Adia Sakiqi (Ambassador of Albania to Germany)
Mr. Ashwin Bhaskaran (Counsellor, Head of Political Wing, Embassy of India to Germany)
Mr. Gildas Mukunde (First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda)
Amb. Jerobeam Shaanika (Ambassador of Namibia to Germany)
Amb. Giedrius Puodžiūnas (Ambassador of Lithuania to Germany)
Amb. Viktor Yengibaryan (Ambassador of Armenia to Germany)
Amb. Gordan Bakota (Ambassador of Croatia to Germany)
Amb. Loai Yahya Abdulrahman Al-Eryani (Ambassador of Yemen to Germany)

Their interventions reflected a shared understanding that sustainable international cooperation is grounded in dialogue, mutual respect and cultural exchange. While each contribution offered a distinct national perspective, together they formed a coherent narrative on the importance of cultural diplomacy as a stabilising and forward-looking force in international relations.

The exchange of ideas highlighted not only the challenges facing the international community, but also the pathways through which cooperation can be strengthened through cultural understanding.

We express our sincere appreciation to all speakers, partners and participants who contributed to the success of this year’s Forum. Their engagement ensured a dialogue that was both globally relevant and firmly grounded in diplomatic practice.

The Forum on Cultural Diplomacy in the European Union continues to serve as a platform where ideas meet practice and where culture remains a bridge between nations.
