Michael R. Pompeo was born in Orange, California, on December 30, 1963. He is married to Mrs. Susan Pompeo and has one son called Nick.

Having taken different career paths, Pompeo first started working for the United States after graduating first in his class at the United States Military Academy in 1986. He served as a cavalry officer patrolling the Iron Curtain, and with the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry in the US Army’s Fourth Infantry Division.

Later on, after leaving active duty at the US Army, Pompeo graduated from Harvard Law School, where he has worked as an editor of the Harvard Law Review and the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy.

Prior to his political career, Pompeo, alongside three friends, founded Thayer Aerospace, an aircraft manufacturer company. There, he served as the CEO for over than a decade. Afterwards, he became President of Sentry International, an oilfield equipment manufacturer company.

In 2010, Michael Pompeo ran as congressman for Kansas’ 4th District, when he won the election for the first time. He was re-elected three more times in 2012, 2014 and 2016. Furthermore, he served on the House Intelligence Committee, the Energy and Commerce Committee, and the House Select Benghazi Committee.

On April 26, 2018 Michael Pompeo was sworn in as Secretary of State. Prior to his term of appointment, he served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
