UNESCO Hosts Latin America and Caribbean Week 2026
Member States gather in Paris to celebrate regional diversity and sustainable peace.

From June 2 to June 5, 2026, UNESCO Headquarters in Paris hosted the annual Latin America and the Caribbean Week. Organized in collaboration with the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC), the event highlighted the region’s cultural vitality and its commitment to peace and sustainable development. Under the theme "Peace, Diversity and a Sustainable Future," the four-day program successfully promoted dialogue through artistic performances, debates, and exhibitions.
The week opened on Tuesday, June 2, with an inauguration ceremony attended by representatives of various Member States. This session featured official speeches and artistic welcomes, followed by the public opening of a permanent bazaar and exhibitions. These core features showcased traditional products and creative expressions from thirteen participating nations—including Argentina, Barbados, Colombia, and Mexico—offering attendees a direct encounter with regional gastronomy and craftsmanship.
Artistic performances remained a central element throughout the event, reflecting the cultural richness of the region through traditions such as cueca, tango, salsa, and bachata. The program also included daily film screenings and specialized workshops, such as a children's cooking session focused on Paraguayan identity and the preservation of Andean musical traditions. These activities provided a platform for both established cinematic narratives and intergenerational cultural exchange.
Beyond cultural displays, the event facilitated intellectual exchange through high-level colloquiums and roundtable discussions.
