UK–Germany Science and Technology Talks Advance Cooperation in Berlin

UK–Germany cooperation in science, technology, and space was the focus of a multi-stop visit in Berlin, as Emran Mian, Permanent Secretary at the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, met with German counterparts and innovation stakeholders. The programme highlighted efforts to deepen bilateral collaboration in research, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.

The visit included an introduction to space technologies at the German Aerospace Center in Berlin-Adlershof, alongside exchanges on digital transformation with GovTech Deutschland. Meetings also involved representatives from the Bundesministerium für Digitales und Staatsmodernisierung, reflecting broader cooperation on innovation policy and public-sector modernisation.

Further discussions were hosted at the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, where participants examined next steps in operationalising the UK–Germany Strategic Science and Technology Partnership and the Kensington Treaty as its one-year anniversary approaches. The exchanges addressed future cooperation in research, technology development, and institutional coordination between both countries.

The programme concluded with a working lunch bringing together leaders from government, industry, and the technology sector to discuss geopolitics, critical technologies, and the role the UK and Germany can play jointly in shaping an innovative European landscape. The meeting provided an opportunity for informal dialogue across sectors and reinforced the strategic dimension of the bilateral partnership.

The Berlin-based visit highlighted the scope of UK–Germany cooperation across space technologies, digital governance, and research policy. By combining institutional meetings with cross-sector dialogue, the programme positioned Berlin as a platform for advancing bilateral science and technology collaboration.
