Diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and China have remained at the centre of political debate in London following renewed controversy surrounding the planned Chinese embassy complex at Royal Mint Court near the Tower of London. British officials, diplomats, and civil society groups have continued discussions over the political and security implications of the project, which was formally approved earlier this year by the UK government.
The proposed diplomatic complex, often referred to in British media as the “Chinese mega-embassy,” would become China’s largest embassy in Europe. British authorities stated that security assessments had been conducted before approval was granted in January 2026.
