Uganda Embassy in Germany Hosts Coffee Cupping Event in Bamberg
Cultural diplomacy through aroma: Uganda’s coffee heritage connects communities and fosters international partnerships
October 07th, 2025Bamberg, Germany – The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the Bamberg Tourism Center as the Uganda Embassy in Berlin, in collaboration with Littlefarms, hosted the Uganda Coffee Cupping Event. The gathering celebrated Uganda’s rich coffee heritage while serving as a meaningful act of cultural diplomacy, uniting trade, tradition, and intercultural dialogue.
Representing the Head of Mission, Ambassador Stephen Mubiru, Ms. Jessica Namuddu, the Embassy’s Representative for Tourism, reaffirmed Uganda’s strong commitment to developing its coffee sector.
“Coffee is more than a commodity for Uganda — it is part of our identity, a lifeline for millions of farmers, and a bridge to international partnerships. The country is determined to position Uganda as a global brand for quality coffee,” she stated.
The event provided a strategic platform for Ugandan coffee exporter Tom Kalyesubula of Littlefarms to engage directly with international buyers and roasters, enhancing Uganda’s visibility in Europe’s specialty coffee scene.
Guests enjoyed a curated cupping session guided by three leading Bamberg-based roasters — Daniel Gerlach (Seven Hills Coffee Roasters), Patrick Baer (Wicked’N’Mellow Specialty Coffee), and Alexander Gäcklein (M.A.G Roasters). They highlighted the depth and diversity of Uganda’s beans, from the bold Robusta grown in lowlands to the aromatic Arabica cultivated in the highlands.
A captivating Latte Art performance by Mr. Gerlach showcased not only Uganda’s coffee versatility but also the artistry and quality that define its production.
City officials, including Mr. Michael Heger, Director of Tourism, and Mrs. Ulrike Siebenhaar, Head of the Department of World Heritage, Culture, and Tourism in Bamberg, praised the initiative for spotlighting Uganda’s sustainable farming, cultural identity, and tourism potential.
The Uganda Coffee Cupping Event in Bamberg stands as a shining example of how cultural diplomacy can transcend borders, turning a cup of coffee into a medium for dialogue, friendship, and global connection.
