Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan traveled to Berlin to support his team in the European Championship quarter-final on the 6th of July against the Netherlands.

Erdogan attended the game at Berlin's Olympic Stadium with his wife Emine.

Germany is home to the biggest Turkish diaspora abroad and the community was following closely the national team’s performance throughout the European championship.

Erdogan had landed in the capital shortly before kick-off and was due to fly back immediately after the game.

For the occasion, he had cancelled his planned diplomatic trip to Azerbaijan, according to the German Press Agency.

The Netherlands won the game with a score of 2:1 and thus, Turkey did not reach the semi-final despite the hopes of the community.
