The U.S. Embassy Welcomes the Graduation of “USA For You” 2025
German highschooler commit to keep the German American friendship alive
January 29th, 2026A significant milestone was marked for 105 young ambassadors at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, where the graduation of the USA For You 2025 cohort was celebrated. Joined by parents, educators, and partners from across Germany, the occasion honored a program sustained by a strong and committed network. The program’s success is made possible through the co-funding of the states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as the Joachim Herz Foundation, go.Venture, and the Foundation for Youth Exchange Bavaria, together with the substantial contributions and co-financing of YFU and Experiment. Appreciation is also extended to Deloitte for enhancing the program through the provision of professional training for participating groups.
Seven groups representing Berlin and Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein, and the city of Munich actively engaged in community-based initiatives in California and Michigan. The program extended well beyond traditional sightseeing, emphasizing meaningful service and civic contribution. Participants supported a range of local organizations, including food banks, conservation projects, senior centers, and kindergartens, offering practical assistance where it was most needed. As reflected by one participant, the experience highlighted how even small acts of service can create joy for others while also fostering a deep sense of personal fulfillment.

This strong commitment to community service provides a natural connection to the Freedom250 initiative, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of United States independence. Through this initiative, participants encountered firsthand the fundamental American principle of “We the People,” reflecting the belief that citizens can address challenges through collective action. By actively engaging in their service projects, participants became part of a longstanding tradition of civic responsibility and public service in the United States.
Building on this “American Spirit,” returning participants resume their roles in their home communities as engaged role models, committed to strengthening German American relations. They become part of a growing network of 585 alumni who integrate their international experiences into their schools, vocational training, and volunteer activities. USA For You represents more than an exchange program; it serves as a catalyst for personal development and lasting perspective change. As participants from Saxony-Anhalt expressed it: “Exchange programs do not merely change one’s location; they change the way one thinks.”
