The richness of European jazz, with its roots, numerous variations and constant development, has been showcased in Berlin for the third time. Talented musicians from more than fourteen countries and thirteen cultural institutes and embassies took part it this year’s festival.

Each band presented their own compositions and performed songs well known in their home countries alongside completely new interpretations of popular hits. Furthermore, musicians mixed their musical roots in a way that was both competitive and interesting to watch and listen to.

Although the main organizer was EUNIC Berlin (European Union National Institutes for Culture), among the organisers were also the embassies of Lithuania, Malta, Cyprus, Portugal, Sweden and the cultural institutes of Portugal, France, Italy, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Austria, and Czech Republic.

Artistic supervision was assigned to Andrea Marcelli, who has gained great success in five different continents and released several albums for labels such as Velve/Polygram, Lipstick, esc and BHM. He has also performed alongside artists such as Wayne Shorter, David Liebman, Markus Stockhausen, Bob Mintzer and Allan Holdsworth.

The festival took place at the Kunstfabrik on Invalidenstrasse from the May 14 to May 21.
