The Ambassador
H.E. Salah Abdel Shafi
H.E. Salah Abdel Shafi is a Palestinian diplomat and economist who serves as the Head of the General Delegation of Palestine to Austria and Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna. He has extensive experience in diplomacy, international development, and multilateral affairs.
Prior to his appointment in Vienna, Abdel Shafi served as Ambassador of Palestine to Austria (2005–2010) and later as Ambassador of Palestine to Germany (2013–2018). He has also represented Palestine at international forums, including the United Nations. His diplomatic work focuses on strengthening Palestine’s international relations, promoting dialogue, and engaging with Austria and international organizations on issues related to peace, development, and humanitarian affairs.
History
Austria maintains official relations with the General Delegation of Palestine in Vienna, while supporting a negotiated two-state solution in line with international law and European Union policy. The Palestinian representation in Vienna engages with Austrian authorities and the international organizations based in the city. Bilateral cooperation focuses on humanitarian assistance, development cooperation, education, and support for peacebuilding initiatives in the Middle East.
