The Federal Foreign Office 2026 Open Day

On June 20 and 21, 2026, the German Federal Foreign Office hosted its annual Open Day under the theme "Invitation to a State Visit". Thousands of visitors gathered at the Berlin headquarters to observe the inner workings of international policy, ranging from crisis management to digital diplomacy. This event provided a platform for direct interaction between state officials and the public.

The ministry featured over 50 information stands representing various departments, including humanitarian aid and the Federal Office for Foreign Affairs. A central highlight was the traditional citizen forum with Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, alongside discussions on Germany’s role in the United Nations and the future of Syria. To address modern challenges, "Fact or Fake" sessions taught visitors how to identify online manipulation. Furthermore, the Academy for Foreign Service provided detailed information on diplomatic career paths and the unique lifestyle associated with international rotations.

Strategic international partnerships were a cornerstone of the weekend’s program. The Republic of Cyprus was highlighted as the primary guest country, coinciding with its presidency of the Council of the European Union. Additionally, France and the United States hosted interactive formats related to their respective G7 and G20 presidencies. These partner nations shared cultural symbols and regional specialties, emphasizing the collaborative nature of contemporary global governance.

The event integrated a broad cultural and educational program to engage a diverse audience. On Saturday, the "Babylon Europa" project featured musical contributions from across the continent, while on Sunday, the ministry served as an official venue for the "Fête de la Musique Berlin". Educational initiatives for younger guests included a "children's rally" and the creation of personal "diplomat passports". To ensure inclusivity, all main stage events were supported by sign language and written interpretation.

By providing access to restricted areas like the Foreign Minister’s office and the Crisis Response Center, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency.
