The EURA Agreement Signed in the French Embassy
Companies Safran and MTU established a joint rotorcraft venture
July 08th, 2024French company Safran Helicopter Engines and German company MTU Aero Engines signed a cooperation agreement to create a 50/50 joint venture named EURA (European military rotorcraft engine alliance).
“EURA is a guarantee of sovereignty for the future military helicopters that Europe and European nations will need,” said Cédric Goubet, CEO of Safran Helicopter Engines.
The French Ambassador to Germany, François Delattre, and the Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Defence, Thomas Hitschler, attended the signing ceremony at the French Embassy in Berlin.
The partnership marks a new chapter in the long-standing cooperation and relationship between Safran and MTU.
The joint venture will have its headquarters in Bordes, France, at the Safran Helicopter Engines headquarters, and the CEO will be chosen from within the German MTU.
By forming EURA, the two companies are taking a step forward towards the goal of developing a new 100% European engine for the upcoming generation of European military aircraft. The new engine is scheduled to enter service by 2040.
EURA will serve as the hub of a wider initiative that involves working with technology and industrial partners from numerous other European countries.
Its establishment follows the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at the Paris Air Show in June 2023 when Safran and MTU made a commitment to powering the next generation of European rotorcraft.
