Dr. Vasyl Khymynets
Dr. Vasyl Khymynets has been serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Austria since October 2021. Born on January 13, 1970, in Uzhhorod, Ukraine, Dr. Khymynets is fluent in German and English. He is married and has one child.
Dr. Khymynets has had a distinguished career in the Ukrainian diplomatic service. Before his current role, he was the Head of the 1st Territorial Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine from 2015 to 2021. From 2009 to 2015, he served as Ambassador-Counsellor at the Embassy of Ukraine in Berlin, where he also held the position of Chargé d'Affaires in 2012 and 2014.
His earlier roles include Deputy Head and Head of the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2008–2009), Head of the Social and Humanitarian Affairs Unit in the Department of Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation (2007–2008), and First Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine in Berlin (2003–2007). He also served as Head of the Department for Ukrainian Diaspora, National Minorities and Confessions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2001–2003) and as Second Secretary in the Department of Cultural, Social, and Humanitarian Cooperation (2001).
Dr. Khymynets's initial diplomatic posting was as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine in Austria from 1997 to 2001. Before joining the diplomatic service, he was a lecturer in German Studies at Uzhhorod National University from 1993 to 1997.
Dr. Khymynets holds a Doctorate focused on Ukrainian-German relations, which he obtained in 2008. He earned a Master of Foreign Affairs from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2001–2002). Additionally, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Uzhhorod National University in 1997 and from the Faculty of Romance-Germanic Philology, Department of German Studies at Uzhhorod National University in 1993.
