The Ambassador
Magdi A. Mofadal
Ambassador Magdi A. Mofadal has served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna since July 2022. Prior to this, he was the Director of the Sub-Regional Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Khartoum, Sudan, from March 2020 to June 2022. From May 2019 to December 2019, he held the position of Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Sudan in Washington, D.C.
Between August 2016 and April 2019, Ambassador Mofadal served as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative at Sudan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. He was the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission at the Sudan Embassy in Juba, South Sudan, from June 2013 to June 2016, and Minister Plenipotentiary at the American Affairs Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Khartoum from January 2012 to June 2013.
His earlier postings include serving as Counselor and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Sudan Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, from July 2007 to December 2011, and as First Secretary at the Department of American Affairs in Khartoum from October 2004 to June 2007. From August 2000 to September 2004, he was the Second Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Sudan Embassy in Bucharest, Romania. His career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began in October 1995 as a Third Secretary, after serving as Assistant Financial Collector at the Ministry of Finance in Blue Nile State from 1994 to 1995.
Ambassador Mofadal graduated from the University of Khartoum in December 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Born on February 17, 1969, in Shereik, Sudan, he is married and has a son. He is fluent in both Arabic and English.
