The Ambassador
H.E. Majintha Jayasinghe
H.E. Majintha Jayasinghe is a Sri Lankan diplomat serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Austria and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna. He has experience in diplomatic representation, international cooperation, and Sri Lanka’s engagement with multilateral institutions.
As Ambassador in Vienna, Jayasinghe works to strengthen Sri Lanka–Austria relations in areas including trade, tourism, education, development cooperation, and cultural exchange. His mission also represents Sri Lanka within Vienna-based international organizations, where cooperation includes areas such as nuclear technology, sustainable development, and international law.
History
Austria and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in 1956. Sri Lanka maintains an embassy in Vienna, which also serves as its Permanent Mission to the United Nations. Bilateral relations focus on development cooperation, trade, tourism, higher education, and cultural exchange. Austria has also provided humanitarian assistance following natural disasters and supports cooperation through multilateral institutions.
