The Ambassador
H.E. Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani
H.E. Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani is a Qatari diplomat who serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Austria and Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna. He is a member of Qatar’s diplomatic service and has represented his country in several international and bilateral contexts, with particular experience in political affairs and multilateral diplomacy.
During his tenure in Vienna, Ambassador Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani has focused on strengthening Qatar–Austria relations, particularly in the fields of investment, energy, trade, innovation, and cultural cooperation. His posting is also significant due to Vienna’s role as a centre for international organizations, including the United Nations Office at Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
History
Austria and Qatar established diplomatic relations in 1974. Qatar maintains an embassy in Vienna alongside a Permanent Mission to the United Nations. Bilateral relations have grown significantly over the past two decades, particularly in investment, energy, aviation, finance, and culture. Austria and Qatar also cooperate on regional and international issues through regular political dialogue.
