Amb. H.E. Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani
Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani is a Qatari public official, business leader and diplomat. His career has included senior roles in telecommunications and sovereign investment, including chairmanship of Ooredoo and leadership at the Qatar Investment Authority. He previously served as Ambassador to Germany and held senior state responsibilities before becoming Ambassador to the United Kingdom in 2024.
History
Bilateral ties between Qatar and the United Kingdom are structurally monumental, exceptionally strategic, and built upon deep-seated mutual economic and defense dependencies. The embassy occupies a magnificent, palatial Grade II listed Victorian mansion located at 1 South Audley Street in Mayfair—an architectural marvel designed by Frederick Pepys Cockerell, featuring an iconic exterior terracotta frieze.
The Embassy of Qatar in London operates as a high-powered operational command center executing massive sovereign wealth statecraft, energy security diplomacy, and high-stakes Middle Eastern conflict mediation between Doha and Whitehall. Under Ambassador Al Thani’s extensive macroeconomic guidance, a primary structural mandate of the mission centers on fully operationalizing the landmark Qatar-UK Strategic Investment Partnership. The embassy works seamlessly with the City of London and the UK Office for Investment to channel heavy Qatari institutional capital into British infrastructure, green technology grids, life sciences, and urban regeneration projects.
On the defense front, the mission maintains an extraordinary level of alignment with the UK Ministry of Defence, notably facilitating the joint operations of the RAF-QEAF multi-role Typhoon squadrons.
Concurrently, the mission drives extensive humanitarian and mediation statecraft—hosting high-level diplomatic dialogues to stabilize regional conflicts, coordinate humanitarian aid flow corridors to Gaza, and advocate for international law.
