The political relations of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany have traditionally been good and have further improved through continuous high-level diplomatic visits: Chancellor Merkel visited Doha in the first half of 2010, in the second half of that year Hamad bin khalifa Al Thani came on state visit to Germany.

In April 2013, former Qatar Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani visited Berlin, in June 2013, the former German Foreign Minister Westerwelle traveled to Qatar for the Fourth time. The Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyad visited Berlin last in August 2013 and in March 2014. Due to Qatar’s dedicated foreign policy, the country is an important partner for Germany. In 2013, Germany and Qatar celebrated the 40th anniversary of their bilateral Relations.
