H.E. Evangelina A. Bernas
H.E. Evangelina A. Bernas is a Filipino career diplomat serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Austria, as well as Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna. She has a long diplomatic career within the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, with experience in bilateral relations, consular affairs, and multilateral diplomacy.
Before her appointment to Vienna, Ambassador Bernas held several diplomatic assignments abroad and senior positions within the Philippine foreign service. Her work in Austria focuses on strengthening bilateral relations in areas including trade, investment, tourism, labour cooperation, education, and cultural exchange. She also represents the Philippines in Vienna-based international organizations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).
History
Austria and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in 1958. The Philippines maintains an embassy in Vienna, which also serves as its Permanent Mission to the United Nations and other international organizations. Bilateral relations have steadily expanded through cooperation in trade, labour mobility, disaster risk reduction, higher education, and cultural exchange. The sizeable Filipino community in Austria also contributes to strengthening people-to-people ties.
