The Ambassador
H.E. Mr. Badr Mohammed Badr Al Manther
H.E. Mr. Badr Mohammed Badr Al Mantheri is an exceptionally seasoned, heavyweight diplomat and regional strategic specialist within the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). Known for his sharp administrative acumen and expertise in handling complex geopolitical dossiers, his public service career has centered on advancing Oman's highly respected, independent multi-pillar foreign policy and preventive diplomacy.
Before his premier appointment to the Court of St James's, Ambassador Al Mantheri built an outstanding reputation as Oman's Ambassador to the Republic of Lebanon. During his tenure in Beirut, he successfully navigated highly volatile regional shifts, spearheaded major humanitarian and structural relief coordination, and personally cultivated deep socio-political networks—including strengthening historic institutional ties with academic foundations where members of the Omani Royal Family had traditionally boarded.
Recognized by the Royal Court in Muscat for his superb tactical negotiation skills and mastery over international trade portfolios, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik strategically deployed him to guide Oman's vital mission in London. Arriving with a clear mandate to align the sultanate's trade architectures with post-Brexit realities, his leadership represents an elite diplomatic bridge between Muscat, Whitehall, and central European capitals.
History
Bilateral ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom are exceptionally deep, fraternal, and centuries-old, formalizing through a series of historic Treaties of Friendship dating back to 1798. Today, the embassy commands a grand, landmark independent chancery building at 167 Queen's Gate in South Kensington, complemented by a specialized supplementary annex at 64 Ennismore Gardens in Knightsbridge housing the state's cultural, health, and military attachés.
The Embassy of Oman in London functions as a high-powered operational command center for executing sovereign investment statecraft, energy-transition diplomacy, and defense synchronization between Muscat and Whitehall. Under Ambassador Al Mantheri’s executive direction, a foremost priority of the mission is operationalizing the landmark UK-Oman Sovereign Investment Partnership Framework. This comprehensive financial architecture directs heavy British institutional capital into Oman’s rapidly expanding green hydrogen sectors, wind energy grids, and digital infrastructure developments in strict alignment with the Oman Vision 2040 economic diversification doctrine.
On the defense and security front, the mission maintains an extraordinary level of integration. The embassy works seamlessly alongside the UK Ministry of Defence to coordinate joint military exercises, maritime safety operations across the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and high-level preventive diplomacy protocols to de-escalate Middle Eastern tensions.
Furthermore, the embassy drives extensive educational and civic statecraft—overseeing the academic trajectories of thousands of Omani scholars studying at elite British universities—while running a highly modernized consular department that provides digitized passport processing, electronic visa updates, and robust assistance to the thriving Omani student, professional, and corporate diaspora community residing across the United Kingdom.
