The Ambassador
Mohamed Hamdy El-Molla
Mohamed Hamdy El-Molla studied English Literature at Ain Shams University in Cairo, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in 1993. He then earned a Master of Arts in International Relations from the American University in Cairo in 2000.
From 1993 to 1996, he worked as a Credit Officer at the National Bank for Development in Egypt. He subsequently joined the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Diplomatic Attaché in 1999 and 2000. From 2000 to 2003, he served as a Diplomatic Attaché and Third Secretary at the Egyptian Embassy in Uganda, where he was responsible for the Nile Basin Initiative and the Great Lakes Region.
Between 2003 and 2005, El-Molla was the Second Secretary in the United Nations Department at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on UN Peacekeeping Missions in Africa. From 2005 to 2009, he was the First Secretary at the Egyptian Embassy in the United Kingdom, handling African affairs, Nile issues, and the Middle East peace process.
From 2009 to 2013, he was a member of the negotiation delegation for the Nile Basin Initiative and served as First Secretary in the Foreign Minister’s Cabinet. He has also been a member of the Egyptian National High Committee on the Nile since 2009. During 2011 to 2013, El-Molla participated in the Egyptian negotiation delegation concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and was a member of the Egyptian team in the International Expert Panel assessing the dam’s impacts.
From 2013 to 2017, he was an Advisor to the Egyptian Mission to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, specializing in disarmament and human rights issues. In 2017 and 2018, he worked as an Advisor in the Foreign Minister's Office. From 2017 until August 2020, he was part of the Egyptian negotiation delegation for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and served as the Deputy Director and Authorized Secretary in the Foreign Minister’s Cabinet from 2019 to August 2020.
Since September 30, 2020, Mohamed Hamdy El-Molla has been the Egyptian Ambassador to the Republic of Austria and the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna.
