The Ambassador
H.E. Fatima Florence Ajimobi
H.E. Fatima Florence Ajimobi is a Nigerian public figure and non-career diplomat appointed to represent Nigeria in Austria in 2026. Before her diplomatic appointment, she was widely known for her public role in Oyo State during the governorship of her late husband, Abiola Ajimobi, and for social and community initiatives associated with that office.
Her nomination as an ambassador was approved by the Nigerian authorities in late 2025, and her posting to Austria was announced in March 2026. She subsequently took up Nigeria's representation in Vienna, including responsibilities toward the United Nations and other international organisations based in the city.
History
Austria and Nigeria maintain friendly and cooperative bilateral relations, with diplomatic ties developing after Nigeria gained independence in 1960. Relations are based on political dialogue, economic cooperation, cultural exchange and collaboration in multilateral forums. Austria and Nigeria cooperate particularly in areas such as trade, investment, energy, education, development and international security. Austria has identified Nigeria as an important partner in Africa, while Nigeria engages with Austria both bilaterally and through international organisations headquartered in Vienna, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), where Nigeria is a member.
Economic relations are an important component of bilateral ties, with Austria and Nigeria cooperating in sectors including infrastructure, energy, technology and business development. Cultural and people-to-people links are also supported through educational exchanges and the Nigerian community in Austria. Overall, Austria–Nigeria relations are characterised by constructive cooperation and regular diplomatic engagement, particularly within the framework of Austria’s role as a host country for international organisations and Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s largest economies and a significant regional actor.
