H.E. Ita Solomon James Enang

Senator (Dr) Ita Solomon Enang was born on August 23, 1962, in Ididep, Ibiono Ibom, Akwa Ibom State. He studied at the University of Calabar from 1980 to 1984 before being called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985, after which he set up his own legal practice in Uyo and later founded his own chambers. His political career began early, with election as a local councilor in Itu in 1987, followed by a seat in the pioneer Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in 1992. He went on to represent the Itu/Ibiono Ibom constituency in Nigeria's House of Representatives for three terms between 1999 and 2011, chairing the House Committee on Business and Rules, before being elected Senator for the Akwa Ibom North-East district from 2011 to 2015 — accumulating 16 years total in Nigeria's National Assembly across both chambers.

After his legislative career, Enang moved into executive government service under President Muhammadu Buhari, serving as Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (2015–2019) and later on Niger Delta Affairs (2019–2022). Most recently, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he was appointed Nigeria's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Germany, formally assuming office on July 23, 2026, when he presented his Letters of Credence to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.

History

The relationship between Nigeria and Germany is ultimately positive. Besides developing relations between the two countries, talks are mostly concerned with the domestic situation in Nigeria (in particular the growing number of attacks by Boko Haram) and multilateral issues, notably security and development in Africa, as well as questions relating to the African Union, the West African regional organisation ECOWAS and the United Nations.

With regard to economic relations, there is a Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria, which is based in Lagos and was set up by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). German and local businesspeople have also joined forces to form the Nigerian-German Business Association (NGBA) with the aim of stepping up bilateral economic relations.

The good relations between Germany and Nigeria are also reflected in the cultural sphere. A bilateral cultural agreement was signed in 1999, placing cultural relations between the two countries on a sound footing under international law.
