Amb. Mr. Maurizio Carlo Gelli

Her Excellency Maurizio Carlo Alberto Gelli is a diplomat of Nicaragua, currently serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with concurrent accreditation from his residence in Spain.

Ambassador Gelli was born in Italy and became a naturalized Nicaraguan citizen in 2009. He began his diplomatic career as Honorary Consul of Nicaragua in Arezzo, Italy. Over time, he has held several important diplomatic posts: he was Ambassador to Uruguay (2013–2017), Ambassador to Canada (2017–2022), and Ambassador to Spain, with multiple concurrent accreditations.

He also serves as Nicaragua’s Permanent Representative to the World Tourism Organization.

In June 2024, he formally presented copies of his Letters of Credence in London, marking the official start of his mission to the UK. Since then, he has worked to deepen bilateral relations between Nicaragua and the United Kingdom — particularly in areas such as trade, tourism, cultural cooperation, and development.

Ambassador Gelli has also taken part in Ibero‑American cooperation mechanisms; for example, in 2025 he attended the I Reunión de Coordinadores Nacionales y de Responsables de Cooperación Iberoamericana, representing Nicaragua.

Over the course of his career, he has demonstrated strong engagement in multilateral diplomacy and international cooperation, reflecting Nicaragua’s interests abroad.
