History

Austria and Moldova established diplomatic relations on 14 February 1992, following Moldova’s independence after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Since then, bilateral relations have developed around political dialogue, economic cooperation, development assistance, and Moldova’s European integration process.

Relations are considered friendly and constructive, with Austria supporting Moldova’s reform efforts and European aspirations. Austria has been an important partner in areas such as economic development, energy security, public administration reform, and humanitarian assistance. Cooperation is also strengthened by Moldova’s participation in Vienna-based organisations, particularly the OSCE and United Nations agencies.
