Amb. Sekhonyana Nehemia Bereng
H.E. Sekhonyana Nehemia Bereng currently serves as the High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United Kingdom, a role he assumed in July 2022.
He studied at the University of Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland (now the National University of Lesotho), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and English. A USAID scholarship then enabled him to continue his studies in the United States, where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) at the University of Pittsburgh.
He joined Lesotho’s civil service in 1972, rising through the ranks during the 1980s to become Principal Secretary in three different government ministries. Between 1992 and 1994, he served as Government Secretary (the head of the civil service), a critical role during a transitional period in Lesotho’s governance. Subsequently, Bereng was appointed High Commissioner to Canada, with additional accreditation to Cuba, Jamaica, Guyana, and Barbados.
