The Ambassador
H.E. Mukhtar Tileuberdi
H.E. Mukhtar Tileuberdi is a senior Kazakh diplomat and politician with extensive experience in foreign affairs and international diplomacy. He was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Austria and Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the international organizations in Vienna in 2025. Prior to his appointment to Vienna, he served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan (2019–2023), where he oversaw Kazakhstan’s foreign policy, including relations with the European Union, multilateral organizations, and international partners.
Ambassador Tileuberdi has held several senior diplomatic positions throughout his career. He previously served as Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and the Philippines (2004–2009), as well as Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva (2016–2019). His diplomatic expertise includes multilateral diplomacy, international security, disarmament, and Kazakhstan’s engagement with international organizations.
History
Austria recognized Kazakhstan following its independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations were established in 1992. Kazakhstan maintains an embassy in Vienna, which also serves as its Permanent Mission to the OSCE, the United Nations, and other international organizations. Bilateral relations are particularly strong in the fields of trade, investment, energy, transport, and environmental cooperation. Austria is among Kazakhstan's significant economic partners within the European Union.
