The Ambassador
H.E. David Yitshak Roet
H.E. David Yitshak Roet has served as Ambassador of Israel to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna since September 2023. A career diplomat, Ambassador Roet has held numerous senior positions within Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly in the fields of strategic diplomacy and relations with North America.
Before his appointment to Vienna, Ambassador Roet served as Deputy Director General and Head of the North America Division at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he oversaw relations with the United States and Canada. Between 2013 and 2017, he served as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations in New York, contributing to Israel’s multilateral diplomatic engagement.
History
Austria and Israel established diplomatic relations in 1949, shortly after the founding of the State of Israel. Israel maintains an embassy in Vienna, while Austria has an embassy in Tel Aviv. Bilateral relations are close and comprehensive, encompassing political dialogue, trade, scientific research, education, innovation, and cultural exchange. Austria has repeatedly reaffirmed its historical responsibility toward Israel and maintains regular high-level political consultations.
